Koalawalla is an indie-inspired company who works hard to keep the world fashionable and warm via handmade hats and accessories.

For those who might be wondering about the origin of Koalawalla, I (Kate Merzke) shall try my best to relay the not-so-interesting story:

Randomly enough, I got the idea to start a beanie company while I was home for the holidays two years ago. I was looking at a little handmade hat my niece had received for Christmas, which inspired me to learn how to crochet. I have always loved beanies, but store-bought ones never seem to fit my head, and/or cost way too much money.

While I was bored at home for two weeks, I sat watching YouTube videos and slowly taught myself how to make a beanie. There was a lot of trial and error, but eventually I developed a pattern that fit me perfectly. A few of my friends saw my creation and asked me to make them some as well. Being the entrepreneur that I am, I decided to take a few pictures and launch a website the very next day. What originated as a hobby quickly developed into a full-time commitment.

Even to this day, I make most of the beanies myself. Several of the styles are outsourced due to time constraints; however, a majority of them continue to be handmade. That's actually one thing upon which I pride myself. While tons of people are out starting clothing companies and sending their designs off to screen printers, I'm spending countless hours making a one-of-a-kind product. I have no employees, so EVERYTHING is done by me.

The response over of the past two years has been incredible, and I am thankful to each and every person who has supported me along the way. You guys are what keep me going!
